My official A-League hierarchy of hating. That is, when these teams play each other, I'll be cheering for the one further down this list (unless another result is better for the Phoenix, of course). So, I really don't like the top three, quite like the bottom three, and am ambivalent about the two in the middle.
1) Queensland Roar - each of the last two seasons we've had a player who just wasn't the same after the Roar kicked the stuffing out of him. And they're a decent footballing side too, so they don't need to do that.
2) Newcastle Jets - similar to the above, but not as many hard bastards, and less talent. More cheating. Had some tinny luck against us, especially last season.
3) Sydney FC - not nearly as good as they still try to make out. More cheating.
4) Perth Glory - some sympathy, some pity, some contempt.
5) Central Coast Mariners - Decent bunch of players, for the most part (I'd probably be ranking the 'Nix one side or the other of here if I wasn't a Wellingtonian).
6) Melbourne Victory - some of the better players to watch, mostly an entertaining team - subject to the occasional bout of playing crap.
7) Adelaide United - a class team - and the play in the right kind of strip too (/liverpool fan).
8) Wellington Phoenix - last season we had some better players, and a whole bunch of worse ones (the trouble with having to recruit a whole team in a hurry when the other teams have already been going two years). This year that was rationalised, and we've had a good solid base of a team, but not particularly exciting. A bit of icing on top for next season and we should go well.

Date: 2009-01-16 09:51 am (UTC)2) Sydney FC - well, naturally. Agree with you. Also: 2-0 and you fucked it up! 2-0 and you fucked it up! Kosmina, ick.
3) Newcastle. General dislike of the team across the board. Dirty players.
4) CCM (man I don't know if it's because I'm tired but I am BORED by this game). Don't really have an opinion of the team.
5) QLD, Apparently my co-worker's old neighbor plays for this team and I've never really made an effort to find out who. That sums up my interest level in the Roar.
6) Perth - Eh. Like Dadi, dislike Toper Stanley. And so on through the team. Have a certain respect for the fanbase, seeing as they're well established.
7) Wellington - With the exception of Smeltz, quite like this team. Like the fans. Find it hard to hate these guys.
8) Melbourne - well they're my boys, even though they're inconsistent.
Do you think with the introduction of the new clubs (eg North QLD), the Roar will be renamed Brisbane? I'm curious to see what they'll do.
